For me, Antonio, I would crop away that red in the top right corner and alter the length/height ratio to suit.
I find that large area of bright red distracts my view away from the actual interesting doorway.
The B&W alternative is a totally different scene which looks like a night time shot of the entrance to a seedy nightclub or 'house of ill repute'. Although, living in a small sleepy coastal town, I don't have any actual knowledge of such places.
And I do agree with you about 'doing your own thing' instead of just using automatic adjustments. You don't learn how to do things by just using using auto enhancements.
