African Jacana
The large feet on this African jacana allow it to walk on the vegetation that grows in the water. It looks like it is walking on water, hence some of the locals call it the Jesus bird. The female mates with an number of males (polyandry), and each male incubates the eggs from that union. The male raises the chicks. One adaptation of the male is that he is able to carry the chicks under his wing.

Re: African Jacana
An interesting bird. Sounds like the females have got it figured out. The diversity among birds is really amazing.

Re: African Jacana
I'm glad that you all enjoyed this photo. I try very hard to take photos that are artistic and tell a story. I don't know if I am making progress, but I am having fun.

And that, for those of us not trying to earn our living from photography, is what it should be about. The fact that images of this high quality also get made, just makes it all the more enjoyable.

Re: African Jacana
Thank you Donald. I find that photography mitigates for other challenges that life throws my way. It is source of peace and intellectual stimulation. Now, I think will go out and see if I can fine something to photograph. :-)
