    Grayed out filters in CS5

I've just noticed that the following filters in CS5's filter panel are grayed out, and therefore not accessible: Filter Gallery; Artistic; Brush Strokes; Distort; Pixelate; Sketch; Texture; Digimarc.

I know that I have used some of these in the past, and have no idea when or how they came to be grayed out. I know there has to be a logical answer for this - some setting or something I can change to bring them back - but I don't know how to think like an algorithmist. Any ideas? Thanks a lot.

Sorry for being a problem child , but how do you do that? I've never understood what bits are about, or what they mean. Thanks.

Once you opened the image in photoshop, go to IMAGE > MODE > and then check the options RGB Color and 8 bits/channel. Upon doing that if you go to filters menu, you would find all the options are now ready for you to use. Hope this helps.

Ooh Aah, yes - helps a lot, jiro. Also noticed that if you change back to 16-bit after using one of the grayed out filters, the change I made still 'sticks.' I'm not sure what the overall importance of the difference between the two means, but I can definitely remember what I have to do in this case.

And thanks for staying up late to help (that would be late for me ).
