A Stroll in the Garden - Part 1

I took my 1987 Canon 70-210mm constant f/4 for a walk in the garden today. This lens gives quite unexpected results depending on the light. I solved the focus hunting by giving the contacts a good clean with a Brillo pad...well cotton wool bud actually. In fact I gave both cameras a good clean - and I have discovered the 40D has a LCD screen - very handy

Very creative shots, Steve. #1 and #2 for me, and a bottle of bourbon.

Mary... or Lucy... either is fine with me. ;)

Number 1 for me. I don't handle alcohol very well so I'll be the designated driver.

Beautiful, Steve! I'm with the others. On #3, I wish there wasn't that shadowy red and, although, it's creative - the green blade of grass is so natural that I don't like seeing it in an altered/unnatural way. (Of course, maybe, that's what makes it great and we're too dull to understand.) #1 and 2, though, speak delicate spring growth, to me.

(Steve, WHAT am I going to do....? I was reduced to taking a photo of mud, the other day. It's raining up a storm, though, and it's tingeing green. By the time I get to spring, everything will have been said about an apple blossom that can possibly be said....sigh, sigh, sigh!)

It's #3 for me - the flame like structure but the green colour is tremendous

The light in #1 is very subtle but very effective. Well caught. I like the structure of #3. Good stuff.

Thanks for your comments everyone. I am always a little wary of using that lens for anything that has to be precise but it's great to play around with.

(Of course, maybe, that's what makes it great and we're too dull to understand.
I will go with that theory Actually I do see what you mean. I think plants need to be either accurate capture or bonkers. In between just looks like a failed rescue attempt.

I wish there wasn't that shadowy red
Now I can't see the red since I have slight colour blindness and subtle reds do not register when viewed with strong greens. Never ever ask me to go out and buy a green jacket. Odds are I will come back with brown

I was reduced to taking a photo of mud, the other day.
Never feel alone with that Katy....
