    Mom's Camera

She wants a camera for photographing high school baseball but is reluctant to spend more than $400 USD! I have put together an ultimate cheapsake list that totals to about $370 and consists of:

    -used nikon d70s
    -used nikon 70-300 f4-5.6G
-new CF card (4gb is the smallest size I could find)

She has no experience with SLR cameras, but has seen my photos and wanted to try one out. She'll shoot JPEGs that will not see any PP.

Any other camera or lens suggestions? Perhaps she would be better off with a canon/pentax/sony even though our lenses won't be compatible (i have a nikon)? I'll only be home for the summers anyway...

    Thanks

I always love these types of post

Reminds me of an old "motto"

"We the un-willing, lead by the un-knowing - doing the impossible, for the un-grateful - for so long, with so little - we can now do anything ... with nothing"!

If you already have some Nikon lenses that she can borrow, I suppose that a secondhand Nikon body makes sense. Otherwise, for that money, I would suggest one of the better 'bridge' cameras.

Bridge would be my choice too.

Just over budget but I'm not from your side of the pond so don't know the best places to look for deals but I'd go with one of these if you can get it on budget:

    Mom's Camera

    Canon Powershot SX30is

    35x (24-840mm) zoom lens
    HD Video
    Articulated screen
Easy to use but with plenty of manual overrides if you want them
SD cards easier to deal with than CF
    Light weight

You should let her use your camera for awhile before she moves forward.

But she may not give it back!
