Tree In The Mist - Almost Overlooked

I took this picture a few years ago but ignored it in favor of shots I preferred at the time. It was an early morning shoot with mist rising off the Shasta River in northern California. I stumbled across this shot and decided I liked it. I worked it up with a painterly look (Topaz Simplify) that seems to work well with the mist and then worked up a second version with a closer crop and in black and white. I used Topaz Detail on top of Simplify for the black and white version. I printed the colored version and put a fancy frame on it and it reminds me of an "old masters" painting. It's not a great shot but has a pleasing feel to me. I guess it pays to review the oldies with a fresh eye.

Bill's great shot posted here "Trees in the fog" was my inspiration to drag this out.

Nice. I like the post-processing on the colored version, Chuck. Good work!

    And so it should.

There's a lovely serenity to the scene. It is an excellent example processing to achieve the painterly look.

    Good work on both, Chuck.

    Chuck,

Great shot! I really like the PP on the color one. Unfortunately, I think the crop on the B&W one is just a bit too aggressive and wish you could pull it back a little.

Glad my shot inspired you to share these!

I love days when you find a photo you took a while ago and have a whole new way of looking at it! The shape of the tree is well captured and I love the softly muted colors... very nice
