    Blue-Throated Barbet

A barbet has been building its nest on a tree behind our house, and our balcony provides a great place to take pictures of the bird during the day. Here are a few photos that I have taken over the last few days. The first two photos are taken at f6.3@250mm for 1/250s, ISO 400. The last one f5.6@250mm for 1/125s, ISO 100. All the post-processing is done in lightroom. Critiques and comments are welcome.

What a great looking bird. I like the cropped shot #2 the best. Great colors.

Thanks Paul. #2 is my favorite too. I wish I had denoised #3 a little more.

In that situation, Abhi, which I often encounter with insect photos, is to simply go over the noisy areas with a Blur Tool. Vary the size and opacity to suit.

There isn't anything interesting in the background so a bit of blur won't cause any problems but should remove the noise.

Thanks for the tip Geoff. I tried this with the adjustment brush in lightroom. I am not very good with selections, so I was being extra careful and have some noise left in the background near the bird. It looks much better now. By the way, does the bird look oversharpened? I had a hard time setting the sharpening for the red hairs on the head.

Thanks Lucy. Here's another shot of it sitting outside it's hole in the tree.
