Hi Chris,
I think the composition is basically OK, but I'd like to be able to see more detail ... so perhaps some sharpening?
I like it with soft focus. My first thought was of astronomical images -- a sun or nebulae -- the red/orange blending to yellows and whites
It just looks over burned when I do that...I've tried everything, but given this was shot with a 50mm and not a macro, the depth of field wasn't as sharp. I am looking at buying a Sigma 2.8 105mm macro sometime soon.
To my eye it looks OK, bit I still prefer my version. Don't forget to re-sharpen once you've down sampled -- and that sharpening pass needs to be done at 100% magnification. Normally I use Bicubic (not Bicubic sharper), and then sharpen with a USM @ 100% @ 0.3px (almost looks like you've forgotten this last output sharpening pass).

I did not do the last sharpen...but when I get home today, I will, if for no other reason than to see how much it helps.
Final output sharpening is in the latest mini comp...(almost begrudgingly, he says) and it is better...learned all kinds of new tricks this weekend..thanks for sharing.
