What's the difference, Canon XXXD, Rebel TXi or KissX ?

As the argument is still going on; I like to know the real differences inbetween "so-called, the same cameras" named as Canon XXXD (Europian version), Rebel TXi (American version) and KissX (Japaness or Asian version). And if they are really the same, what was the reason naming them so different?

I think the codes are for the intended Point of Destination. Manufacturers does this to control parallel importation and control of the gray market.
