Re: Nordelph sunrise
It's a lovely picture. I think you could do a nice "antique" kind of treatment on it -- it feels halfway there to me. I wonder how much the bank on the left is adding to the scene -- maybe crop that side a little?

Re: Nordelph sunrise
This one is much like my "dreamy" shot posted in a mini comp a few entries ago...there is a beautiful softness that turns out to be too soft, too "dreamy" and lacks in specific depth...one day, I hope to absolutely nail a fog/mist shot...
Your shot also needs some snap, crack and pop.

Re: Nordelph sunrise
I'm wondering about a crop. Maybe just exclude that plastic thing on the right and concentrate on the Narrow Boat (I'm a 'real boat' person) which may give the scene that extra bit of 'pop' which Chris mentioned.
But don't get me wrong; it is a good image now. We are just wondering if it could be made even better.

Re: Nordelph sun rise
Yes I think that looks a lot better.
It might be worth slightly trying a little boost of the highlight area (I would use Curves) but watch that sky. You might also get away with a tiny bit more saturation if it doesn't get noisy.
But I am talking about very slight adjustments.

Re: Nordelph sun rise
Interestingly enough, when I copied your file and went into a curves adjustment layer, I discovered your white and black setpoints hadn't been set to what the RAW file should have shown. I also discovered the image was quite a bit softer in focus than I first thought.
To this end, I set the white and black points, added several screen and several multiply adjustment layers (at 18-20%), one as a pin light at 33%, one in luminosity at 10% and a color layer to get back some of the warmer tones. It is different, though I amnot sure I would call differnt better...just different.
I also resharpened for output.

Re: Nordelph sun rise
It is a very nice image. I agree to crop the left part, it is distracting from the rest.
