Just a fun exercise in reducing, blowing up and cropping

This is the same image which originally was 20 inches on the long side and reduced in length to 11 inches. From there, I continued to crop and adjust size. The pelican was about 70 feet from me and was shot with a Nikkor 50mm 1.8 lens.

Say what anyone wants to say about lenses, but there is no comparison between a kit, offbrand or other lens and a prime...I am really enjoying this little puppy. Thanks again to Martyn for suggesting htis lens working on my D7000.

Pretty much as it came out of RAW

I have the same lens, unfortunately I can only use it in manual mode with my D60 but mounted on a tripod I can get some decent shots.

Tidy! Is this the lens? http://www.warehouseexpress.com/buy-...af-lens/p12869

Is that the equivalent of the cheap Canon 50mm? They certainly are very good. My Canon 50mm takes great pictures.

great pics Chris, i love my 50mm, i think the problem with the D40/D60 is they dont have an incamera motor to operate the worm drive, hence manual focus only, cheers martyn

OK, I have lens envy now.

BTW, that middle one is halfway to a pretty good picture.

#3 looks very good to me. I have a seldom-used 50mm f/1.8 for my D90. I'll have to rethink that, although I really like the versatility of zoom lenses. Seems contradictory, I know. Versatility for taking shots at various distances, but IQ isn't the best...

Mine is slightly different but I think more because it is a much older version...even so, it takes quite good images...my latest Mini Mono post, "A Delicate Touch" is shot with that lens.

Handholding works in a few situations.
