    Utrecht Streetphotography

A couple of weeks ago I visited a friend from secondary school who had moved to the Dutch city Utrecht for studies. We did a tour through Utrecht to see how we could capture the city in a honest way. It was a cloudy gray day, but I think despite of that I managed to come up with some proper shots.

What do you think of it? It's ok to be (quite) critical, that's what I'm looking for

In #6 you can see my friend testing my new Ef 70-300mm f/4.0-f/5.6 IS USM.

I like the B&W photographs of Dutch cities. There are some beautiful buildings to be found in some of the old cities and the black and white brings it out in a good way. It also conveys a certain atmosphere. On your second photograph I would have cropped a bit, there is too much in that photo for my taste. Just the bridge and the reflection probably. The rest of the photos, not much to say, apart from the positive comments above. I like them.

    Thank you Peter,

The great thing about quite some larger cities in the Netherlands is that there's so much to be found near each other. Old buildings, modern architecture, city-canals and loads of bicycles. You can get a great variety of shots in one afternoon and have a good time all at the same time.

I love this type of "street photography" as opposed to the random grabs with an UWA lens. Nice job!

A very good set, Jeroen. My compliments.

I think I have seen you going in close, like this, on a subject before. I do like it very much and shows us that by paying attention to detail, we can say as much about a location and a society as we can by showing a wide view. A very, very good picture.

Thank you Richard, Peter, Donald and Paul.

Most of these photographs are taken with a 70-300mm lens. I bought this lens to be able to isolate the subject more from its surroundings. Especially in a busy city there will always be unwanted items in your shot when shooting with a wide angle lens. You can tell the same story (at least) with a telephoto lens but than in a much stronger image I think.

I like this most. Beautiful lines and conversion. It's always pleasing to see photos of photographers taking photos.

I also like this but I feel there should be more space for us to look at. It may help (me at least) place the man a little more specifically in the surroundings.

Ja inderdaad, om de een of andere reden is dit topic opeens weer hip.
