    Subscribing to threads

    Hi all,

Does anyone ever do this? (subscribe to a thread)

Since I find all posts in any thread here at C in C are interesting, I have never felt the need to subscribe to single some out. I haven't noticed anyone else doing this, I think it's visible when you view a member's public profile.

So I don't, but wonder if I am missing something?

    Cheers, Dave

I'm setup to receive eMail notification for replies or new items from any forum - so subscribed at a forum level, as opposed to a thread level.

I've made a suggestion to Sean though that may make it easier for people (especially those new here) to subscribe to the threads that they start, so they receive notification of a reply more quickly and thus become more involved, sooner) (based on the theory that most will probably check their eMail more frequently than this site - and many probably post the same question to multiple sites (that may sound strange because we know how friendly, efficient, knowledgeable we all are (so why would they ever go anywhere else , but new members won't know that - YET!).

Isn't it just easier to stay logged in permanently

Now I'm the opposite (but then I'm not new), I check here several times a day and e-mail every other day

Sounds like a good idea for those not yet as hooked/addicted as we are.

    Cheers, Dave

Ahh - you only asked about the subscriptions - Mostly I just leave a "New Posts" window open & keep 1/2 an eye on it throughout the day.

    Addicted - who us? Never

Of all the upcoming mods, something towards this end is highest on the list. At a very minimum, people who start threads should be prompted with a clear option to receive emails whenever there are responses. It's of course doable as is through subscriptions, but new members are much less likely to use those...and yet those are the members which likely need that extra little reminder the most.

    Sean, Colin,

If you need a guinea pig/lab rat for testing, drop me a PM or e-mail.

    Glad to help, Dave

Sean - updated thought of the day. Rather than have a seperate button as I suggested in the PM, how about a check box that could be defaulted on for users with less than "X" number of posts?

"[ x ] Yes - Advise me of Replies via Email"
