That is a very good capture. Very sharp on the bird's eye. Nice tones.

I would make two suggestions for you to consider:

    1. The bird's tail is right at the edge of the frame (at the bottom). I think it would be better if it could be, just slightly, into the picture. Was this cropped? If so, I think adding a bit back into the bottom would help. Or, if not, you could build a short strip into the bottom and clone the background to fill the area
    2. The bird is moving in a left-to-right direction. But it is nearer to the right-hand edge of the frame, with more blank space behind it. I think a more powerful image would result from the bird being more in the left-hand portion of the frame with the space being, effectively, ahead of it.

    Hi Nasseem,

Not sure I have welcomed you yet, so welcome from me to the CiC forums.

I do notice your shots even if I don't comment on every one.

On this, I agree both Donald's comments, and would add that a little more detail under the dark tail feathers would benefit the image, but it is still a nice capture and has quite nice detail in the white undersides of the wings and as Donald says, the focus is good on the eye.

Thanks for sharing this one with us,

I agree with everything that's been said thus-far; I think the colors in the background with the shallow depth are especially nice against the colors of the subject.
As I am fairly new here, it has taken some getting used to the frames placed around so many of the pictures, often with "titles" signatures, copyrights etc. I certainly get the reason for protecting ones photos, but I find most of the "frames" distracting, especially this "bevelled" effect.

    Hi Nasseem,

Nice shot and I like the new crop but I did like the light and colour in the first one. The mood and the details in the light feathers was great.

I am not sure what PP you use but I would go back to the original and just use some Fill Light (if using PS with RAW processing) or add some shadow/highlight adjustment to brighten the shadows only (a little) but leave the mid tones and highlights the same.

    Re: Flight

Thank you Peter I tend to agree with you. The definition in the underwings was much better in the original. I might try the fill light or highlight and shadows and see what I get.

    Thanks

Now isn't that something. I love it. The colour is evocative and the detail stunning. I would submit this to one of the comps here and see how it goes.

For me thought all you need to do is print and frame.

    Well done Nasseem.

Donald checking in. Yes, Nasseem that is very, very good.

I did think that the larger expanse of background in the original was excellent. It contrasted beautifully with the bird. The 'problem', as we discussed was the position of the bird in the frame.

So, given that that was matter to be addressed, you have done that expertly. We now still see the background, but the main subject is better positioned within the frame.

    Dear Donald,

I agree with you. I certainly preferred the wider expance of background. Thank you so much.

Excellent! I can offer only applause, not criticism, of the final rendition. I'm a bit of an aviation nut, and this shot captures "Flight" beautifully and in stunning detail. (The engineer in me keeps admiring how this shot shows the feathers can generate high lift while the wings are moving up and back, lol). Well done, sir... print and frame it!

Yep, that's what I imagined, better in fact.

I have always marvelled at Nature and how we can only try to imitate or reproduce its secrets. Thanks for the C&C.
