    Cattle Drive

Just a few miles out of town I ran into a cattle drive. Usually short but this one was for a total of 16 miles. "Good fences make good neighbors" but terrible for drives so the hwy is used instead.

Thank goodness that the cowboys of the west still survive.

Yes great pics. Looks like everyone is working very hard, & with 16 miles to cover they would be.

    Cheers

As said above, what a photo opportunity.

Used to do this sort of thing in my young days (not on horseback, but on foot). A day's cattle drive - great fun.

You should ask these guys to let you know when they'll be doing it back the other way ( I assume it was a move from summer feeding area back nearer home for winter). I can see a wider angle shot with the drive in full flow and those mountains sharp in the background.

Cattle Drive on foot. Hope you did not have to go far. It took awhile to drive through because they were going in my direction but once thru I could find a spot where the Mission Mts were in the background. Waited for 1 hour before they came by.
I was in my car so some shots were not exactly what I wanted but still fun

Hear hear! Thank you Dave. It's wonderful to see cowboys doing it old school. I specialize in equine art, so you definitly peaked my interest.

    Hi Dave

We used to trek upwards of 150 head 9/10 miles. Taking them to the summer feeding grounds (and then back again as winter approached). For the most part, we weren't on highways used by vehicles (there were far fewer vehicles in them days anyway).
