Wait and thy shall be rewarded ... or the advantage of shooting locally

I have been after this scene for about 5 years.

I could never get it with the cloud or fog behind the tree obliterating the hill against which the tree would otherwise be seen. The tree against the hill was always too much of the same tone.

    Until this morning.

This is shot at 400mm on a FF camera.

Your constructive critique would be welcomed.

Nice one Donald. The furrows are superb and I doubt if this would have worked so well at another time of the year - old Mother Nature was on your side that morning.

I'm glad you finally got the shot that you wanted. There are advantages to shooting locally as you can get many tries to get the shot that you are trying for.

Really great shot! I can't remember how many times I have been foiled by conditions when I only had one chance to get a shot at a distant location which I could only visit once for a short while...

    Thank you all.

I said I'd been waiting 5 years - Not every weekend. The weather pattern that produces clouds down low, only happens at this time of year and, of course, the tree without leaves only happens at this time of year.

would you consider darkening the top left bright area just a tad?

Great shot Donald! "Patience is a virtue" my mom always told me. You seem to have acquired it!

Awesome, Donald. The best landscape shots of a given location are invariably shot by local photographers for a reason. Nicely done.

Patience rewarded. And maybe a bit of "luck" (made only possible by skill, experience, local knowledge, artistic verve and planning).

Absolutey. That's what makes Landscape photography different than others genres. That bit of luck.

We just set up the camera and fire the shutter. It requires Nature to play it's part and for a heavy dose of luck to fall our way.
