Cleaning under the focus ring?
I took my Rebel XTi on a hike with my EF-S 17-85mm USM and it was a rather dusty, 14-mile hike. Now, when I rotate the focus ring, there's kind of a slight scraping noise that doesn't want to go away. Is there any way for me to clean out the dust from inside my lens?

Ouch. I'd try a brush on the end of a vacuum cleaner, but that's about it ... I'd stay away from any kind of blower as it's more likely to force the dust further in. Other than that, all I can think of is send it on a trip to Canon :(

Yep :(
At times like that it's good to have weather and dust sealed L-Series lenses.
I'd be inclined to just keep using it - it might get better on it's own. A collegue of mine recently tripped and ended up with a EF 24-105mm F4.0L IS USM & Canon 1D3 going straight into the sand on a beach ... He was able to brush it off with his shirt and carry on shooting, with no consequences.
