    On the dark side

A very pleasant couple of days camping in the Bunya Mountains National Park tested my camera, my skills (mostly found wanting...) and my stamina. The rain forest was cool and dark especially with an overcast sky.
For a few days at this time of year Caper White butterflies give the impression it is snowing.

We had the camping area to ourselves (school holidays started the day we left).

Great Barred frog tadpoles filled the creeks.

The frogs are well named, the tadpoles are about 40mm long.

The giants of the forest strangle everything.

Stand still for too long and their roots might drag you down too.

Nice set of shots and I enjoyed looking at them. We visited there in 2007 but the weather was not very good (first heavy rain in years) although the sun came out briefly. I was not sure where on our trip the following photo was taken but you have allowed me to place it now. Thanks.

Thanks for sharing the photos, Richard. The set gives a great indication of the diversity of fauna and flora at the National Park.

A popular spot Paul, about a third of the way around the Scenic circuit (Going clockwise).

We came here in July but the rain was horizontal and freezing. I took one snap of a female fairywren oblivious to the conditions and vowed to come back when it was warm.
