    Red Shank

Three from earlier this year. One of the more common estuary birds around here. Comments welcome.

    2. Similar to no.1 but I couldn't choose between them.

Is it a sloping marshy ground or tilted camera click in the first and second? i am not sure whether it is water or not? all images are really nice

My guess is the former. I wondered the same thing, but if you tilt the image (easier on a Tablet! ) to make the mud horizontal, then the redshank looks most odd, as if it were leaning backwards.

Thanks Nandakumar/John. Your seeing the steep sloping side of creek in a tidal mud bank after the tide has receded. It's typical feeding ground for wading birds.

I think a bit of rotation would work with the first two. At the moment it looks as though the bird is facing downhill.

Maybe not having the mud lines horizontal, but at least a shallower angle than at present.

    Thanks all for the comments.

Geoff. it is what it is I suppose. You know what mud creeks are like. I deliberately waited to try and include the stone because without it, it would definitely look like a severe case of tilt. The top of the stone is pretty much horizontal.

    It's a tough one.

I must admit that due to the lighting, I assumed that was water in the bg (not noticing the 'waves' hadn't changed between shots ) and that it was shot with a deliberate tilt - it wasn't to my taste.

However, it is what it is - and now I know it is a sloping mud bank, I'm fine with it

    Re: Red Shank

I kinda prefer #2 to #1 in the choices of two above because I like the curiousity of the look of the bird there than the outright trying to look for an escape of #1 or something caught its eye there. At least the #2 has the curves. I don't know...now that I look again, they both have some expressions and positioning of the head that give each a merit in different ways. The 3rd picture is about the light hitting the side of the bird and the water in an angle. I like it. I like all of them -- now it confuses me that I cannot find a real preference...
