I really need some help please.

    I am so frustrated!

Today I get home from work and fire up the computer to edit a photo for a friend. But although the image looks fine on my desktop viewing in Windows 10 photo viewer, it gets totally saturated and crazy looking in any editing program. I tried LR and then AfterShot with the same results. I don't have a clue why. Here are some screen shots to show what I mean.

    Lightroom
I really need some help please.

    Aftershot
I really need some help please.

But looks OK using Windows 10 Photo viewer
I really need some help please.

Hopefully someone has had experience with this and can help me get this fixed. So frustrating.

I don't understand why this only happens in any photo editing software.

I assume this is a standard jpeg file, not one of the strange variants like jpeg2000, etc.

The colour mappings look incorrect, so we need to figure out what the file really is?

All my old photos look the same way now when viewed in LR or AfterShot. I just exported this photo from LT and once exported it looks OK again. So this is just happening when viewing in LR or AfterShot.

As you can see here all my cataloged images view the same way now. This is so strange.

I really need some help please.

Re: I really need some help please.

Dave sent me the original file and I had no issues at all opening it in the current versions of Photoshop and Lightroom.

    Here is the metadata.

I really need some help please.

Nothing out of the ordinary. The camera is a bit long in the tooth (2004), but that is probably the only thing that stands out in the data.

Try doing a test print from LR. It looks as if your monitor profile used by LR and Aftershot has been changed or corrupted.

Dave - try a cold reboot on your machine. Shut it down and restart it and see if this fixes the problem.

If that does not, see if your are using the correct icm profile for your screen. What operating system are you running?

    Clues?

Window 10 has just had some major updates done?

Windows photo viewer I believe does not use your own (if you have calibrated) profile.

It was working ok but I think after I calibrated my monitor with ColorMonki might be when things went bad. I uninstalled ColorMonki just now but no change. The monitor may be still holding onto the calibrated settings. I may have to find out how to do a reset on the monitor.

    Does this sound plausible.

If you have calibrated and profiled the screen, make sure that the correct profile is loaded as in Grahame's screen shot example.

Restart your computer to see if that fixes things before you try anything else. It is possible that your profile got corrupted, but I've never seen that happen. I am running Windows 10 and a ColorMunki generated profile on my screen.

Paul, I'm unable to do a print right now. But I would agree monitor color profile seem off. Not sure where to go from here.

    Dave,

You do not mention how many profiles show when you look at the screen I posted?

You will see on mine that it shows two, one the generic one for the monitor titled 2367 and the other a title I made up at my last profile date August.

If you only have one showing it may be that that one has become corrupt. If you have two (or possibly more) try setting another to be the 'default', shut down and restart. The OS loads the profile at startup.

Re: I really need some help please.

Thank you Grahame you were right. I had two profiles, one was the BENQ default and the other was the BENQ Easy profile from the ColorMonki. I set it back to the BENQ default and restarted the computer.
AND ALL IS GOOD AGAIN. The ColorMonki profile was causing the problem.

So should I try to calibrate again with ColorMonki and see if it works? At least now I know how to correct it if it doesn't like the profile for some reason.

    Thank you very much everyone.

I would suggest another try at calibration Dave as you know how to easily revert.

It was fortunate that I recalled reading somewhere that Photo Viewer is not colour managed
