Of course yes. It is not forbidden to crop, especially if this improves a picture.
In such action you cannot be perfect in the frame. If you shoot still life you have time to compose, not there.

Arjun... this is a neat shot of the two dogs. However, the background is pretty busy, especially right behind the Jack Russell Terrier.
Cropping might alleviate "some" of the background. You mention that you "hate to crop". I try to get my image set up in the camera so that I crop as little as possible (which is one reason that I enjoy shooting with zoom lenses). OTOH: There are times in which cropping is important, even essential.
IMO, this image might benefit from some judicous cropping, so that more emphasis is placed n the main subjects: the Basset and Jack Russell!

If you have Elements or Photoshop you could scale up and retain the original pixels.

I think some cropping might improve the image .
