    Diskit Monastery

The Diskit Monastery is around 700 years old and is the largest and oldest monastery in the Nubra Valley in Ladakh, India.

Nice effort considering the monastery's location against similar toned background.

Do you have any shots of it which are in vertical format Ashish? It would be nice to see how high it is as Monasteries are usually located in high places

Good composition, plenty of fine detail around the whole scene and perfect exposure.

Nicely composed and lighting well handled, Ashish. As shot it shows well how the structures were built to the contours of the land. Though per Binnur's comments I wonder whether alternate composition might give a better sense of how the monastery is situated on the mountain overall?

Sorry for the ultra late reply Binnur.. I had been traveling on work and have not been here for a long time. Unfortunately, I do not have any shots showing the distance from ground zero, which in hindsight I should have taken. Perhaps, the next time I go, I'll make sure I try and get that perspective.

This is a really nice image.

If I lived in that monastery, I would be worried about a landslide wiping out the buildings. I recently viewed a NOVA video on landslides and that area is one of the most active in the world.

I am pretty sure that there has been a slide to the image right of the buildings and suspect that there has been a slide above the buildings.

Even though the Monastery has safely been there for a very long time, that is no absolute guarantee that a slide will not impact it, given the right climatic/geological conditions...

    Hopefully, it will never happen!
