    I think the diaphragm on a modern lens/camera is electronic operated.

    I don't know what you mean with a burst. Continue shooting? I thought the mirror stays up then. I can't select live view and continue. It's on the same selection wheel.

    PS. I must correct that. Mirror goes up and down with continue shooting. D700.

    There are different approaches. Nikon cameras stop down mechanically, which allows compatibility with lenses made before electronic control.

    For further info regarding the function of the RGB sensor, its evolution to present and where it plays a part in exposure and colour in Nikons here's a good article.
