Reversed Lens

SOLVED. I should 'look' before I 'leap' There is the little lever one can move manually ... Ho hum

For fun I am getting a lens reversal ring for my Nikon D3000 to the
18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF-S VR DX Zoom-NIKKOR. These lenses do not have an aperture ring and when not connected to the camera electronics, the aperture is defaulted to minimum. This gives a better DOF and I guess one would need good light to secure a pic.
Question: Can the lens aperture be altered when not camera connected?
(I realise that camera operation & focus need to be manual)

Hey.
i have a canon 450D with a 18-55mm lens with a reverse ring.
i dont know if your camera can do this, but, what i do on my canon is:
put the lens in the camera (like i normaly do for standard photo) and change my aperture to desired F number.
press and hold the DoF preview button
Release and remove the lens and mount it with the reverse ring

in my case, it works well, the aperture remains as i left it (as long i don´t zoom the lens)

allways use manual focus.

Thaks for your input ... mine doesn't work that way! But I can manually 'manage the aperture lever' as necessary. However, DOF is a serious consideration so small aperture seems best with sufficient light ... eg searchlight
