    Coffee break alfresco

Taken a few weeks ago in Nathan Phillip's Square here in Toronto.
In summer, during the lunch hour many of the people who work in both the Old and New City Hall buildings come into the Square to enjoy the beautiful weather.
While walking around I noticed three women sitting on a concrete planter having coffee and engaging in conversation. Their legs dangling down and not touching the ground reminded me of small children sitting in oversized adult furniture, and finding the scene humorous, grabbed this shot.

    Robert,

The idea is good but I don't care so much for the execution.

The outline of the woman on the right is obscured by the fussy background. I would have taken a couple of steps to the right and shot them from a point really perpendicular to them rather than at this slant. (Since I don't shoot f*i*l*m I can be profligate with my shots and start shooting from wherever I am until I get to the best spot.. That way, no matter when the arrangement disappears, I have something)

Also I understand that people eat lunch when the sun is high but the shadows are blocked up and that doesn't help anything.

    Lew,
    I always appreciate your comments.
Background was a problem that couldn't be overcome because of the geography and the lenses I was carrying at the time.
I was standing in a very confined area with a large shallow water-filled pool behind me, so backing up to use a longer faster lens was not an option.
Moving to the right (or left) wasn't feasible either because of other people sitting on benches that blocked a clear shot. I moved to the only clear area and grabbed it while I could.
I played with the shadow/highlight feature while post-processing and got essentially what you did, and didn't like it so I went with what I preferred, and like.

    Lew,
Not always, but he does always have the deciding vote.
