    A little dot ....

I spotted a little dot in the greenhouse 'hanging' around. At first I thought it was a little spider, but it moved slowly up or down, left or right for a few seconds, changed position eratically, again up/down, left/right and suddenly it disappeared. So I got intrigued...
1:I am talking about the little dot near the frame centre, probably a small fruitfly. Don't be distracted by the couple at the left....
    A little dot ....

The same scenario went on day after day, Iff I could spot it in the first place!! Couldn't find it at rest in the beginning so a few more in flight shots..

    2: a back shot:
    A little dot ....

3: focus isn't really where it I wanted...but I can live with it:
    A little dot ....

I tried to follow it 'hovering' down, hoping the little beastie would settle. Usually it disappeared suddenly, but finally after many attempts, a shot at rest..
4: A full frame shot, at 1x magnification. The body length is about 2,5 mm.
    A little dot ....

I often tried to make a sequence off shots before it disappeared.
5: A merge off 4 exposures into one frame:
    A little dot ....

End off story. Would like to have more pictures at rest, but haven't seen any in the previous week.
Some might wonder iff I am a little bit crazy

    As always C&C welcomed.

Brian, you are crazy! Catching insects in flight definately means you have qualified as mad.... but when it's successful you become a mad genius!

These are just about the hardest captures to get and when you do there is nothing to beat the feeling you get, particularly when they are that small...

On a side note, congratulations on challenging the limits of your lens.

From the description of the flight 'pattern' they behave like Hoverflies but I'm not good enough to be able to identify specifically.

The eye in #4 looks very interesting, seems to be multi-coloured!

Question: in the first shot there is a brown something with legs draped over a flower. Any idea what it is?

Thanks Dave. It is nice when it turns out good, but it seems I am getting picky as I processed no pictures from the first 'foto-shoots' beginning june, or I got more Luck afterwards, or perhaps I am getting better (nah!!!)

Thanks for the crazy-confirmation part...and the nice comments off course. I did enjoy I must say !!

This little fly is ID'ed as Asteia amoena (Asteiidae family ), so not a fruitly.

The eye is multicolored. I will try to take some close-ups next time.
For now, I must settle with a heavy crop out off nr 4:

Iff you are referring to the distracting pair on the left, than that is a mating pair off shieldbugs.

Persistence pays off Rudi. Nice set of captures. I particularly like the formation flying effect of no. 5.

Just taken a closer look and it is two insects doing interesting procreative things!

From the look of them they are Shieldbugs.... https://www.bing.com/images/search?q...9o0&ajaxhist=0
