The heat has gone out of the sun and the winter wildlife is making its way back.
The Red-backed Fairy wren is one of my favourites. After years of trying I still haven't got a photo I'm happy with. They are frantically active tiny birds that prefer dense bush. Generally you have less than half a second to frame focus and click. The Redback's black plumage has little detail to focus on making it a real challenge.
This little chap blinked as I pressed the shutter.


The female is quite drab in comparison.


After months without seeing a single bird there was a family of eight in one tree!

I think I missed focus on the the whole damn lot.

I also saw the first Rainbow Bee-eater of the winter. I couldn't get close enough to get a really sharp shot of this now mature male. This is quite a heavy crop.


The 75-300mm II is a bit soft at the long end, I'm saving for the 300mm F4 which Olympus claim is their sharpest ever lens.

For birds in the wild shots you did good. The Bee-eater is very colorful.

In two weeks Queensland will be inundated by tourists. It will be plesantly warmer over there than in, say, Melbourne. The old stomping grounds for senior citizens...

Anyway, I cannot fault your shots here. I like the wren very much over there. It is more colourful than the ones in my backyard. The pose of the Rainbow bee-eater looks very good. I hope they are much better in their staying power enough to photograph them instead of chasing them like the wrens...That wren has been watching you from afar, Richard...it has every intention to ruin your shot...bwahahahaha
