    Portrait of an Angry Rooster

I have been searching for a chicken like this for some time, as I think they are very pretty. This week, I was visiting a dairy farm, and I happened to come across this little rooster. I got down to his level and captured this image. Right after I shot this, he disappeared; I lowered my lens to see where he went, and to my surprise, he was charging me from the side. I don't think he appreciated my long lens pointing at him. I stood up quickly, thinking that would be the end of it, but nope, he chased me right out of the barn -- he was so very mad! And I have to admit, I am a little afraid of angry birds.

I don't know why he'd be mad at you Kim, you took a perfect portrait of him.

    So, a really camera-shy rooster.

Oh well, maybe he'll appreciate you more after he sees the quality of the image. It's wonderful.

Funny because the expression I heard growing up was 'mad as a wet hen'. Pause for thought. Anyway great pic of qhat turned out to be an aggressive rooster. Heads up if you're visiting a farm, rams can be unpredictable and will blindside if given the opportunity. I learned that the hard way.

Nice clear shot Kim. With your background story you were almost "Suffering for you art"

Beautiful shot of a handsome bird. Do you know what type rooster he is. We have six hens of five different varieties. It's amazing but, they have their different personalities.
We started with four hens and then bought two more chicks. We kept the little ones away from the big girls because the older ones could do some serious damage to the little ones. However, one of the later chicks a Buff Orpington has grown larger than any of the other hens and the older girls no longer try to pick on the two relatively new arrivals.

Calling him and angry rooster is somewhat redundant. I'm not aware of any other kind

Really a well executed image. And her surely does look angry...

Oh well...at least you got a real pretty good shot of him rooster with no damage done to your camera nor yourself. Maybe you can give him a copy of your shot for peace offering when you see him again.

Another thing I didn't know until recently is that different breeds of roosters have distinctly different crows. a neighbor has one that sounds like Tarzan.

Excellent image and story. They can be aggressive little buggers.

Thanks everyone. It was an adventure. A friend told me it's a silver laced wyandotte. I had no idea roosters were so aggressive, and truthfully, I didn't know if it was a hen or rooster (I did get clued in).

Jack P, thanks for the warning about the Rams -- I am visiting a friend in the coming weeks with a beautiful black Ram -- I'll be careful.
