I seldom have any great desire to shoot sports from the grandstands and don't usually have an "in" to get placed in more advantageous positions. However, I just signed up for a motorsports shoot with my camera club. This is just another way to have fun with my new 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II lens. That lens is opening all sorts of opportunities for me. I will get a more advantageous camera position than if I were just in the ausience.

I am attaching a link to the information provided by the club because, I think it might help anyone who is interested in shooting motor sports. If gives some pertinent information regarding gear and mthhods of shooting.

As I have mentioned in other posts, I am attending the Planes of Fame Airshow on April 30th. However, I just learned that there is another airshow at March Field in Riverside, CA on Sunday, April 17th.

The admission to that show is free and it will be a great way to practice for the Planes of Fame.

There is also an airshow in Riverside, CA on April 2nd but, I am committed to photographing a Rowing Regatta in Mission Bay, San Diego with my camera club on that day. The club is trying to become the official photographers for that event.

Thanks for the links Richard - I live close to Brands Hatch and I'm going to get there with my camera as often as possible this summer. The Club car meets they hold have an open pit policy, so I should be able to get close to the cars, and I know the track really well so have some spots singled out already. The national and international meets they hold there will be really busy, but the club events tend to be quieter.

It'll be the tamron 70-300 VC for me, so I may have to push the ISO for action.

Thanks for the link, good to see you have a source of outlets to utilize that lens.
