2016 Project 52, first quarter by Sam Rothstein

I intend to use this project to push me to get out and shoot more often, and find new things I wouldn't normally shoot. I've found a couple of different "inspiration themes" to kind of help me along, but I may also include some older images with new PP since I've been trying to improve my skills in that area as well. Hope this goes well!

Week 1: a bit of a cheater being that the photo was taken about a week prior to the start date, but I just processed it the other night

Taken while on vacation in Jamaica, at the Rose Hall Great House just outside of Montego Bay. This is the site of an old sugar cane plantation, and has a very interesting (even if proven false) legend about it's former mistress, Annie Palmer, aka the White Witch. She is said to have killed 3 out of 3 husbands, only to be killed by her freed slave lover.

I liked the way this spillway snaked across the property, and hoped it would make a good capture. The water was moving very slowly, so I don't think I could have gotten the silky waterfall effect I wanted without a strong ND filter and a tripod.

Difficult shot with the speckled lighting, nice composition. With so much in the foreground a deep depth of field (smaller aperture) could have been used to help the eyes flow throughout the composition.

Very nice composition Sam I like the water as is, IMO silky water wouldn't suit such a composition .

Well I like flowing water, and surf for that matter, to look crisp and clear so this image suits me. My only slight suggestion would be to have shot slightly wider to show all of the ornament in the top right corner; and the foreground is slightly on the 'soft side'.

I honestly don't know what I was thinking shooting at a wide open aperture. Being on vacation in a tropical paradise, and fruity rum drinks most likely

I'll revisit the crop, I know there was an ugly shipping container I cut out of the top right.

Thanks everyone for the positive feedback!

Week 2, or is it three? I guess I'm off to a bad start and missed one already! Anyway. I grabbed this while at work today with only my iPhone on hand. Did a little editing in PSE tonight, and I think I'm satisfied.

Really nice. I like the track lines leading to the sunrise. Great shot!

Always difficult to get good shots in a crowded area but you have managed to find the right angle for this scene; and the potential over exposure areas have been well handled.

    Thanks guys!

@joebranko I think if I had even touched it, I'd be in a cell somewhere. Maybe one day!
