    I'm off!

Here I am, minding my business ...
    I'm off!

When along comes that scary guy with the camera (again) ...
    I'm off!

I'm not standing for this, I hate having my picture taken ...
    I'm off!

    I'm off ...
    I'm off!

Another product of last Sunday's walk, it is a shame I can never get close to this bird though.

All shot with Nikon D5000 and Nikkor 70-300mm VR at 300mm and 1/1000s (first) or 1/1500s (the rest) at f8 and iso 400, -0.5 EC.

As you'll see, being a series, the last three shot within one second, I tried to keep the framing and (very simple) PP consistent throughout.

Obvious defects; over exposed, all a little noisy because all cropped down to about 970 px square to get image big enough, then reduced to 700 px for CiC. Probably over-sharpened too. No single image is good enough, but as a series I hope it works.

All I did was take a few extra paces towards it, down the bank, between first and second shots, but fortunately, experience has taught when this bird's about to flee, so I was ready (sorta) when the head went up.

    C&C welsome,

Love the water coming off his feet in the last picture. I can't wait to show you our herons in California.

That might be a hazard on the cycle track I walk along to get to it, where ever it is, which is unpredictable.

Feathers might be itchy, I am ticklish you know

I have been once in Algarve in the mountains near Silves where I met an important Portuguese football man I would say a boss of the football.
He is the kind of person I don't like. Kind of rude, with the idea that he knows everything and giving orders to everyone.
I was with someone who introduced me and it was in the afternoon. We went for a drive in the mountains to see the panoramas and make some photographic shots.

The football man stayed and when I met him on our way back he had killed a dear. What disgusted me more was the un-fairness of the situation: he had been inside a little wood house, disguised / under cover and waiting for the animals to come for eat and drink.

He killed the animal with one shot which was to be considered something great. In fact he was shooting at close range with a precise gun/rifle with mono scope.
It was a piece of cake to kill the animal.
He later stated that he was going to offer the animal to a politician. I do not know if it was truth or if he was kidding ...

Later I thought that would be a wonderful way to photograph wild animals and this was in my mind when I suggested you the tent.

You can get portable canvas hides which many birdwatchers use. And some even contain a seat. But you may feel a bit odd using one in a very public place.

Until he eventually died of old age a couple of years ago, we had a heron that would come onto the fish quay to scrounge a few spare small fish. He would come to within a few yards of somebody and would freely walk around on fishing boats.

Sometimes he would fly alongside my boat and when I threw a fish he would dive straight into deep water grab his free meal then fly off to eat it.

This rather poor photo is the only one I can find quickly but it shows him tackling a fish on the quayside.

    I'm off!

So that is the answer, bribe him to come closer.

Or cheat and go to a zoo.

    I'm off!

    Psst - I didn't really say that.
