blades display team

i had a great day out at RAF coningsby yesterday.watching the blades display team.i wish i'd got my shutter speed slower for a bit of blur on prop.but hay ho :)
tried a few in b&w just to be different.c&c welcome

Hi Bootsy,

Looking beyond the images for a moment, two things I noticed;
i) you seem to have tried different border widths and colours on every single shot here, and
ii) they are all focused (according to EXIF) at infinity

So; have you decided which border width suits best?
Or was there a conscious choice on each one? and if so what was the thinking there?

Was the infinity focus manually set to avoid the AF getting it wrong if the plane(s) slipped off an AF point?

I agree a slower shutter speed and probably a narrower aperture for improved IQ would have helped, but thy're not bad at all as they stand.

I see the focal lengths range from around 70 to 160mm, what lens were you using?
I ask because I guess the f4 most(all?) were taken with is probably wide open.

Looks like you had some challenging light to cope with too, well done,

i) well photoshop isn't my Strong point.so basically i was just trying borders out and going with what i felt best suited the image.
ii) basically yes.i shot all these on a 70-200 F4 L canon lens which i'm still getting use to.plus i was recommend this by someone as something to try.
the weather was a bit changeable through out the day with lots of clouds.

on the side of my 70-200 lens theres a switch for 1.2 m - infinity and 3m - infinity.i've been messing with this but not really sure about it ?

Hi Bootsy,

seems like it migth be the same thing as the macro/normal switch on my Sigma 70-300mm. For that lens, I prefer leaving it on 'normal' for non-close-up work. For starters, macro position limits focal lenght to 200-300 mm, and the maximum path for focusing also becomes very long (I can get to 0.5 enlargement though ;), and it will focus to infinity if needed even in macro position).
