    Humpback Whales Showing Off

Out on my weekly humpback watching trip, the third for the season. A nice breach and some curves sliding in. All comments welcome.

Its one of the whale watching catamarans on the Gold Coast just across the ditch from you. We have been going out on the same boat for the last ten years or so, around 15 to 20 times a year. We are such regulars they actually invented a season's ticket for my wife and me. Glad you like the pics. I know how lucky I am to have this on my doorstep.

Thanks Greg. Jump on a plane and get on up to the Goldy. Between now and the end of October there are around 20 000 humpies that swim up and then back again. Photographer' paradise. And even though I love Tassie and especially Launceston, it would have to be freezing down there right now. Tomorrow we've got 23 degrees. Many thanks for the feedback. Stay warm.

Okay, you've piqued my curiosity with those great pictures...you're on the tossing boat shooting
subjects that tend to move rapidly, what were your camera settings?

That would be over 1/3200 and autoISO...no EXIF...but excellent shots! Queensland is the paradise of us Melbournians during winter...'wish I could be there too...

    Re: Humpback Whales Showing Off

Beautiful captures. #1 is my favorite whale shot ever...

Years ago, I was fishing about a mile off San Diego Bay when a playful (I was hoping he or she was playing) gray whale was milling around us. I was in a 20 foot boat, smaller than the whale and we were close enough to get wet when the whale splashed the water in the air. This was a combination of being thrilled and being petrified

No camera with me unfortunately. But I now have a Fuji XP-60 to carry along on my fishing advantures. I go fishing for Tuna and Yellowtail (Down-Under, they call our yellowtail, "kingfish") on Monday. First time out in my son-in-law's new boat. I treated myself to a couple of new lures: Australian made, Halco Max 130.
