    The Violinist

This mariachi band violinist, normally merry, assumed a momentary, intense expression and I grabbed the shot with the Panasonic LF-1 compact. The scene was at a party/memorial for an old friend this afternoon. I wanted to concentrate the viewer's eye on the expression, so I converted to monochrome in Topaz BW Effects, created a heavy vignette, and also a thick border.

Nicely done, Tom, the monochrome give the perfect effect.

Good idea for the conversion of this shot, Tom...It expresses the mood of the violinist. I did not find the vignette heavy, nor the frame thick. I find them just right for this shot. You should look to compare your vignette on other shots (I was guilty of them too) and very wide frame that distracts from the subject more than your framing here...it is more about the subject and not the frame...Good shot...
