    Perception

While I'm on the theme of debilitating stereotypes, I might as well share with you a local photography project that was launched in the wake of my city being outed in a national news magazine for its acute racism problem. The series, by artist KC Adams, is pretty powerful.

This problem has existed since the beginning of time and will never be eradicated.

    Re: Perception

Very well done series. Although, I have never been prejudiced against Native Americans, I do look at them (us) quite differently after I learned, through studying my genealogy, that my background includes: besides Scot, English, Irish, German, and Norman French, some Cherokee blood also...

I think, however, that it was the earlier prejudice against Native Americans that resulted in my father not knowing he had any Cherokee ancestry which is, IMO, a very sad thing indeed! I am quite proud of having even a little Native American heritage.

I like to say that although the first of my ancestors came to America from the "Old World" in 1638, there were already some of my ancestors here ready to meet them with a friendly or not-so-friendly greeting.

A wonderful concept, and very well done. Thanks for posting.

The lesson I take away from this isn't only about Native Americans. It's about bigotry.

We are not racists in Australia. We just keep 'them' about 500 km away from anywhere.

We can all reevaluate how we think at times.
It would be interesting to do one of those here in New Zealand
There are some very interesting looking characters over here, underneath a interesting exterior a very gently compassionate personality

At times, racial profiling works. But this subject will go towards the politics of it all so I am not going there.
