    Technique refinement

My foray into the smoke genre, if nothing else, is improving my PP skills.

The selection process is proving more complex than what I've done in the past when I've limited
myself primarily to using the Color Range command. I've found that by adding a Threshold
Adjustment layer provides a numerical basis for the amount of white/dark that I want to select
when I utilize that Color Range command. Always followed by Refine Edge command.

Case in point: In this image I made seven various selections and subjected each to a different
Hue Saturation Layer. If nothing else, it is interesting.

Is the Color Range command similar to a Color Picker? Interesting concept, this gives the impression of a flame, if possible it might be worth utilizing a flame concept in interesting ways. I was viewing a video recently where candle flames/wax were falling onto furniture to create a slow starting inferno.

This is interesting and suggests things that I must try. Chauncey, from the terminology that you are using, I would assume that you are using Photoshop. While I use Photoshop routinely, I still have many blank spots in my understanding of the program. This would extend my knowledge.
