I might try the RawDigger linear export to get a more contrasty sky above was exported with gamma (a popular word here, this week).
Nice. Subtle. Nothing wrong with subtle.

My attempt. It reflects my obsession with long exposure (albeit by cheating in PP for this purpose ). I tried out some stuff I'd read over Christmas in the book by Julia Anna Gospordarou & Joel Tjintjelaar.

    What I did:
    Lightroom
    • Exposure +8
    • Highlights -100
    • Shadows +100
    • Lens Correction

    Photoshop
    • Selected the house using colour select tool then refined selection and saved as a channel.
    • Isolated the sky and used path blur to give a long exposure like blur to the clouds.
    • Multiplied sky
    • Removed Danger sign and sharpened

    SilverEffex as smartobject in PS
    • Started with Underexposed preset
    • Added three control points to the house. On the face, the roof and the side. Increased brightness, contrast and structure individually to where I was happy.
    • Amplified whites by 15% but also protected highlights
    • Toning Cynotype #10
    • Vignette Lens Falloff 1
    • Burn Edges 1 reduced strength to 10%

Hi, came across this thread while looking for some info on Silver efex and tonality, so thought i would have a go at conversion.

Normally i create a flat image, boost colours in raw, then use Nik tonal contrast with BW conversion done in SE.

Thing is capture one does not like dng so thought i would do a full raw and BW conversion in tonality, which i have been playing with.

I choose no preset, base settings

    Yellow filter

    Expsure
    Exposure -3
    Adaptive -21

    Contrast
    Contrast +11
    Smart -18
    HightLights +28
    Midtones -15
    Shadow +34

    Slight S curve

    Glow
    Amount +8
    Smooth +8

I then created 9 layers and used brush to paint in changes

    Sky smooth
    Structure -8
    Micro structure -8

    Sky drama
    Contrast
    Smart +12
    Hightlight +30
    Midtones +7
    Shadows -83

    Cottage clarity
    Clarity +22
    protection 15
    Structure +20
    protection +16
    layer opacity 56

    Cottage contrast
    Contrast +2
    Smart +16
    Highlights +11
    Midtones -11
    Shadow -22
    whites -18
    blacks -43
Curve to bring down shadows and highlights a little
    layer opacity 65

    Cottage side
Use layer to bring this out of shadow a bit. Opacity 35

    Bottom right corner
Used layer to darken this corner a little
    layer opacity 35

Added a burn layer (opacity 74) and dodge layer to create bit more drama

Added layer to create slight vignette

Open in PS, clone out sign and thick bramble branch on left, resize sharpen for web.

Always have had difficulty in following the rules, to that end...I prefer a color version with some tweaks.
Tweaks being, adjusting perspective, using HDR Toning, and selective sharpening.

    I used CS6 ... processing as follows:-

    ACR (before converting to Greyscale)
White Balance on grey cloud in sky
    Highlights reduce, -28
    Shadows, open +66
    Whites, +36
    Blacks, deepen -57

    Clarity, for punch +30

then convert to Greyscale and apply adjustments....

Reds -78 (darken rust on shutters)
Orange +20 emphasise ivy on roof
    Yellow +3 Chimney Highlight
Green +81 Bring up Ivy on shadowed wall
Blues +65 dramatise the sky and increase deep blacks.

    Post process in Photoshop

resize and apply 4 pix 'noise' sharpening.
