    Northern lights

    Northern lights
A bit of Aurora Borealis over Rovaniemi, Finland, in December 2014. Located on the Arctic circle Rovaniemi is a prime location for aurora, and we were not disappointed!

Well done and lovely. I wish I lived far enough north to see this more often. I fooled with cropping it in the lightbox and found I preferred it without the bright pole light along the left margin, though I feel that otherwise the city lights beneath the aurora are attractive in this image.

    Very nice Lennart,

I tend to agree with Mark regarding cropping off that bright street lamp.

I would like to see this myself, but living to the west of London, I'm even less likely than Bernard, who must be some 400 miles north of me.

    Cheers, Dave

Thanks for your comments. You are right about the bright light - the reason I kept it in is that the normal advice for viewing aurora is to get as far as you can from any city lights, but the photo as such is better without it!

Thank you for sharing this with us. I'd love to see this but don't think I'll ever get the chance.

Although I live in Canada I have only seen this once! I blame the big city lights! I love this shot and the crop on the left is the only change I would contemplate. Great capture!

I will just rely on you people to take photos of this phenomenon as to wait to see this means shivering in the cold for me. Very beautiful Lennart. I agree with Mark (Message #2) about cropping the bright light and pole at the LHS.
