So what if it's broken? ... it's still mine!

We had organised a photowalk at Chor Bazaar (Thieve's Market) in Mumbai last Sunday. We came across this hen at a scrap shop. She seemed completely at home and used to visitors and people clicking her. It made me smile to see her defiance and she seemed to say "So what if it's broken? ... it's still mine!"

    C&C welcome

So what if it's broken? ... it's still mine!

I like the quirkiness of it. The hen needs to be a little sharper or more dominant to give it the full impact. Great idea.

Very good shot, Ashish...even the poop she did looks like an expression of territorialship. Oh I don't know the word to put here...but you know what I mean...Love the expression. Excellent catch.

    Very well spotted Ashish.

Agree with what L Paul has said and it will be well worthwhile having a go to improve this already good image.

Thanks Paul... I agree with your observation that the hen needs to be more dominant. I was in a dilemma whether to zoom in on the hen or take it as it has been taken. I wanted to get more of the exercise cycle into the frame and so held back.

If you are lucky and can get close enough it is the sort of situation where a wide angle lens can provide the right perspective.

I think you could crop this shot in half, Ashish. We don't need to see the entire frame of the bike to know that it is a bike, and the junk behind the fowel conveys the same story, imho.

Although I like the original shot very much, I have been thinking of Greg's comment ^ up there. I thought it would lose the environment he is in and wouldn't complete the picture/story you were telling here if you crop it, but I am wrong...and I think Greg is right in his opinion. It will also emphasize the hen and its story too...

    Ashish,

What I like about this shot is how effectively you have used exposure control to draw attention to your main subject. The composition is perfect in telling the story of where the hen lives.

I like what you saw in the shot and how you executed the shot to show the viewer what you intended to show.
    Well done!
