    Watch Out for the Trees

Shot on a very windy day at Melbourne Airport. It's a Qantas Boeing 767.

Wow ... as they say. In there competing with Josef Hoflehner's 'Jet Airliner' gallery.

    Dramatic image.

Looks like a dramatic reportage shot that can weave around many different stories about the plane hitting the trees -- it was too low -- or did everyone survived the accident sort of thing? Excellent shot!

Graham...that is not a "spur of the moment shot" suggesting that it is a routine landing, in their eyes.
    Dramatic shot nonetheless!

You're correct, it's not spur of the moment from my viewpoint. If you go to Google Earth and search for 37 41.456S 144 50.482E you'll see exactly where I was. This is not quite lined up with runway 34 but I moved to this spot because I realised after watching a couple of aircraft land that this would be the spot to get the most dramatic shot through/over the trees.

Done it. For someone used to being in the middle of mountains and hills, the landscape looks very flat. Is that what's it's like around about?

One could almost wave to the captain. Impressive shot. I see you used an 85mm lens - I'm surprised it compressed like that, or was the plane just really close?

Yes Donald, it's very flat around Melbourne. This shot is a bit over processed but the airport is circled in the middle of the shot and the image was taken from Mt. Macedon which is 35+ miles (57 kilometres) from the city. The airport itself is about 18 kilometres from the city.

It was pretty close. It's only 800 metres from touchdown
