Indeed it's fun, and beautifully colourful!
+1 for creativity!
Before I make a long winded, multi-page, and controversial commentary on this I would like to request the BTS shots and detailed diagrams regarding the set-up and lighting of the Cup Holder.
I find myself unable to make an informed decision on this shot without the most crucial information and I would hesitate to potentially incorrectly extrapolate in light of the lack of information.
I think I can, however, get out on that limb and say its fun to get back in the studio! It shows too, Mike!
Thanks, folks!
The cup holder wasn't and still isn't lit.
More important, when the first person determines exactly what the subjects are, I'll send that person anywhere in the world a 2 GB memory card. Being the big spender that I am, I just want to reiterate that that's GB, not MB. Also, 2 GB, not 1.

They are obviously the bottoms of wine glasses which have been laid down, what else?
Please make my 2G storage a flash drive. With my camera 2G is 1-1/2 shots!
I like Sandisk (or whatever is way more expensive) and don’t make me pay for shipping!
(For some reason I had fun writing that!)
Note to all: I would think anyone with Terry's expertise would be able to differentiate between a memory card and a flash drive. The contest explicitly explains that a memory card will go to the winner. Not to mention that he didn't determine the subjects, I hereby declare that his infraction renders him ineligible for the grand prize.
You leave me no choice but to contest the Judge’s (inaccurate) decision and inform my legal team, Dewey, Cheatam, and Howe, and I will have to demand proof of any alleged infractions.
I also contest the validity of any statement from a respected studio photographer who claims he doesn’t light his Cup Holder!
I think too much wine may have been decanted from the decanter in the cool shot in the other thread! I do, however, understand the need to thoroughly test any potential Christmas Gifts to good Friends.
They are lucky to have you as theirs Mike, but I digress!
I'm going with balloons...where's my memory card????
Not smooth enough to be glass IMHO
Nope, not balloons. Not even close.
I'm going to guess eggs.
Drat. Christmas lights then. 'Tis the season.
You are correct that the lighting is solely provided by Christmas tree lights, though that's not because Christmas is coming up. I bought the strand of lights two years ago for dedicated use in my makeshift studio. However, the lights are not the subject, only the lighting.
Still no memory card for you.
Lovely image Mike Still thinking what it is
I've spent precious minutes in close observation of this image and I'm no closer to deciphering the puzzle than any of the other pundits. Regardless, your control of light is remarkable.
Thanks to Andrew and Binnur.
I will be shocked if anyone figures out what the subjects are. I didn't even know such objects exist until a couple months ago. Once I saw them, I knew I had to photograph them.
May be you should give us some hints Mike
