Sunrise rainbow: changing light

I found the changing light as the sun came up quite interesting. Thought I would share this.

Sunrise was at 7:38 am. The times the images are taken are above each one. A point of interest; the dark area where the rainbow is not touching the horizon is the shadow of the Earth cast against the sky.

Trevor I was having a bit of a rough day. Until I saw these!

Each one is a winner but the last one just blows me away!

The only thing I would say is that #2 & #5 might be in need of a slight CC rotation, but man, these shots are awesome!

A matter of 30 minutes altogether and they are all very good shots. Did you have to get out of your house to go this place where the barn is? Did you have this seemingly perpetual rainbow where this barn is located??? I love all of your shots here from the first to the last. They are really great...

The barn is about twenty minutes from my house, very quiet and peaceful drive at that time of the day,

The rainbow lasted the full time. Until I actually checked the times I thought it was fleeting. I was scrambling about so much the time seemed compressed to just a few minutes. I am fortunate I caught the beginning of the rainbow as I had my back to it. The sunrise was fading and I thought the light might be more interesting to the west. Had to scramble to readjust the tripod and set up. As it was I lost about four minutes before I got the setup right.

Neither am I obviously!

The problem for me is threefold. 1) It just keeps giving me great photo opportunities. The day i took this I swore I would not go there. I actually went to shoot a group of old granaries but the farmer had parked a huge tractor along side them and it was hopeless to even try. So by default I drove about two miles back to this barn. And got this. So now I am back addicted to the barn's location again.

2) For shooting prairie landscapes this barn cannot be beat. At least in my location. Prairie shots are about light, land and sky interactions. But you need some point of interest and scale. The barn provides this. And allows the composition to be very simple with just three elements.

3) The location is just so quiet and peaceful. I love the open vista, the solitude and even the wind. I could, and often have, stood out there for hours just watching the world.

Thanks Mike. I had a bit of time to work on it over the last week. Just a few tweaks to polish it up a bit. Hopefully I did not overdo it. as is my tendency I am afraid.

A great series Trevor! You were very fortunate to get the rainbow to last that long. Most of the ones I have seen have been fleeting and difficult to set up for quickly enough. Well done!

Just a few tweaks to polish it up a bit. Hopefully I did not overdo it.

I don't remember which version made use of the subtle vignette but that's the one I prefer. Neither version overdoes anything in my mind.
