    Sunset

Took this at sunset 'obviously' and am happy with it except for the water, which looks as though it is covered with little sparkles or dots. This was taken with my Tokina 11-15mm lens and I am using RAW for the first time.
Is what I am seeing some kind of noise? Can I fix this in post processing, in Lightroom? Is it related to using RAW? Your comments are always appreciated.

This is a very nice image Joe IMO it is a bit noisy. You can see it better if you view your original file at % 100 size. Noise can be caused by high ISO values or long exposures. As far as I know ,it has nothing to do with shooting raw. I don't use LR, but, because LR is the same as ACR , I'm sure there is a noise reduction function in it as there is one in ACR. If you could post the exif data, I'm sure members would be more helpful

Nice, you probably saw some of the sparkles as you viewed the scene, sometimes those thousands of reflections are difficult to capture.

Going Raw should help to reduce problems.

The water looks fine to me. Completely natural looking. The dark clouds are where I would worry about noise levels. Just noticeable but not really a problem.

    Hi Joe,

I really like the image a lot. the color dominates the middle of the image, and it works. When used properly, LR's noise reduction is professional quality and just a little will smooth out the dark clouds. Again, wonderful shot!!

    Thanks Binnur:
    Here is my exif: ISO 400; 12mm;f 5.6; 1/400sec.
I tried the noise reduction in LR but could not see any improvement. I seem to have difficulty in noticing noise so perhaps I cant discern when it is removed. Thanks for your help.

Joe I do not use Lightroom so I wouldn't have a clue about the difference. But I like your shots despite the noise...it is a beautiful calming place to shoot...water, colours of autumn, a picnic rug and a good bottle of wine with a beautiful woman will be the order of the day here. What more can you ask for?

Joe, generally if you view your images at %100 size on your screen , then it is easier to notice noise or/and softness in your images. When I want to sharpen or reduce noise in my images I always do it at %100 size so that I can judje the results better
