old trawlers
Came across these neglected old trawlers in Velddrif harbour, western cape,South Africa and thought the textures would make a good conversion to B&W.

From the cracked paint in the foreground to the cables far back… GREAT DoF!

Lovely subject for mono. Reminds me of the sort of thing I used to take photos of to print and then try to draw, until I discovered that draftsmanship was never going to be my metier.

Good B & W work that brings out the tone and texture beautifully.

Re: old trawlers
Your thought was correct. Very nice conversion to B&W to bring out the textures of the weathered boats.

The same two boats from another angle, though I don't think this is as effective.

Re: old trawlers
Neil,
Both are good conversions and yes the first is slightly the better.
The second has potential though as there are lots of contradicting 'grains' in the decking and superstructures which could perhaps be brought out better by a bit of selective burning and subjecting the sky to a slight gradient to bring out the 'grain' in the clouds.

I like the first shot, Neil, for all the reasons already mentioned.
