How to reduce noise

Hello,

I have Sony H50 digital compact camera. In this attachment i have posted a pic of an event held at night. i used flash. But there is so much noise in it. Please suggest what to do??

Is this your camera? http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/spec...ony_dsch50.asp Cameras like these have pretty small image sensors. If you look at the pixel density (near the top of the list) you will see it's 32mp cm2 - that's a lot. Whereas something like the Canon 450d is about 3mp cm2 http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/spec...on_eos450d.asp. If you shoot in bright clear conditions with any camera you will get something between a good and excellent shot. Even my wife's mobile phone camera does a good shot in good conditions. But when conditions get dark or hazy you will soon notice the noise problems as you have done here with the Sony.

You could put the shots through a noise reduction program such as Neat Image. But ideally you want a camera with a larger sensor, and lower pixel density per square centimetre.

That's about $1100 or £730 sterling. You could get a Canon 500D with kit lens for that, or even a 50D with kit lens.

Or a Nikon D90, which is evidentally an excellent camera (I don't know much about Nikon though).

Try one out first at a camera shop, if you can. Ask around, read reviews. See what others say on here. If you are starting off with DSLR I would stick to Canon or Nikon, as you will have a better range of lenses and accessories in the longer term.

I had a quick go with my rather expensive Topaz DeNoise. But I think Helicon Filter is now free. :)
