At the Edge of the Enchanted Forest

One of the more interesting shots from Easter Sunday.

At the Edge of the Enchanted Forest

Please click for a sharper view...

My little models are playing in front of one of the very large Mangrove trees on the waterfront in St. Pete. Converted to monochrome in Silver FX, brushed in contrast, dodge and burn via Aperture. Effective 35mm, ISO1600 (I know, but it was pretty dark under that tree and no flash this go around), f/8, 1/200.

    Robert,
This is a really great image. There is something very magical, almost 'looking glass' in this image.

Superbly set and captures. And you've made a great job of finishing the image in the digital darkroom. The way in which the light has been brought out and made to work, is great.

Looks amazing to me, Rob. I wonder if there is anything you can do to separate your daughter's skirt a little more from tree she is sitting on?

Beautifully done! The only thing missing are a set of wings for each kid. My mind of shots...

I wish I can do B/W perfectly...I tried yesterday but I think it sucks. So nevermind. Maybe I have to get those google plug-in. It might make me a better B/W-ter.

That's lovely Rob and nicely processed, particularly the choice of mono.

I think magical is the simplest term to describe this one Robert, they must have found some bug or tiny critter to keep them so enthralled.

Precious. An image to be treasured on many levels. So good that it almost makes me want to have children.

    I Love it!

There are so many potential stories in this image, the slightest crop could change the story significantly.

    Well done!

What camera is giving you these base images at ISO1600?

Very much appreciated Donald, was a fun day and I'm happy to have preserved a small part of it...

Great suggestion Greg, I'm going to put a little more work in and see what comes of it.

Thank you Izzie, Silver FX is a wonderful package, very few hindrances transforming conceptuals into reality...

Thanks Grahame, thanks for reviewing, when something captures the interest of one, the other is not far behind...

Great feedback, thanks for commenting. The camera is a Sony Nex 5N (mirrorless, about 3 year old model)...

Thanks Mike, if you do I promise you'll never look through the lens the same way again - the camera is just drawn to them...

Superb! I love the way the root structure the kids are on leads from outside to inside the frame- almost like a road that led the kids into an enchanted forest, and the boy's expression is perfect for that. Keeping the BG a little darker just adds to the mystery of what else might lay beyond. I can't look at this image without grinning.
