It's not just the men who brave the waves. (And good to see a young person with a proper camera).

The noise is too distracting in the second image.

These waves are very powerful Greg, especially like #2...If you didn't show the girl and her camera, the pose of the girl with her back on your camera woudn't have been confusing. As it is, #1 shows the prelude to her song....Is this place a stone's throw away from your area? Must be a lot of photo-ops at this time of the year...

I was to distracted to notice the noise.

Greg the ISO 800 used in the second photo seems very high at the apparent light level. I tend to stay at ISO 400 or less unless forced higher.

Love the turquoise and emerald greens of the Tasman...

I don't usually shoot above 400 ISO either, Paul, but I was trying to achieve a deeper dof to get both the woman and the surfer in focus.

Yes, the composition which I think works well is certainly pushing the limits of DOF.

Two nice images. I like the concept of the first and full marks for waiting until the surfer had turned in towards the camera in the second.

Attractive light, water, and action. I'm headed off soon to Hawaii to see family for a week and this surely gets me in the mood (sadly camera-less as my D600 is in for its new shutter - I'll just have to practice "seeing").
To me, the challenge in these is dealing with the high dynamic range/deep shadowing created by the nearly oncoming sun. I understand the ISO 800, but would think between the 600D and PS the noise could be pretty thoroughly quelled.

The other photographers that I see here in the cold north-western fringes of Europe, do not look like that. But ..........

She needs to work on her shooting stance. Feet slightly apart. One foot slightly in front of the other. Increases stability. I'd be willing to come over to show her.

Well, I am surprised about the noise. I honestly thought John was pulling my leg when he mentioned it. I blew it up to 100% and could hardly see any, but since other people have also remarked about it I have reprocessed it using DxO. When I look at it at 200% I can see there is a bit less noise now.

Thank you to everyone for your input, and please let me know if this is an improvement.

Mark, the 600D is the only DSLR I have ever had but I think it is a dog when it comes to noise. That will be my prime consideration when upgrading later on.

    #2 With less noise (hopefully)?

Nice set. The second is the stronger of the two images IMO. But it would be much improved by cropping away the left half of frame and brightening he shadows a bit.

The only reason I noticed the noise is that there was a band of pinkish color directly above the photographer in the sky area.

    Re: Committed Photographer.

Aha... thanks, John. I think that little pink band was caused by stuff-up when I first levelled the horizon. Still, when I opened the original raw file in Canon's DPP it was a lot noisier than it appeared in ACR.

Dan, are you suggesting I remove the surfer and just focus on the photographer?

BTW, Donald, the young woman is dressed fairly conservatively for our beaches.
