    Snow Geese in Northwest WA

Always a good sign of spring when the Snow Geese fly in. Great to hear them all chatting about how the flight and the weather was for the trip...!

I especially adore images #1 and #3. A beautiful scene, beautifully photographed. My favourite being #3 for the overall scene and sharp focus throughout the entire scene.

I've never seen snow geese before. Thank you for sharing.

    Nice shots, Ken.

I like that there is a white church in the first and white buildings in the third image. They seem to complement the snow geese coloring.

I like #2, but think it might be better if most of the sky were cropped off. There isn't much information up there.

I like that first shot, Ken. Birds covering the ground and filling the sky gives a very good sense of he invasion. I take they are grazers and the owners of the land might not be so impressed with their presence?

Nice shots. I like the first and third for the overall sense of how many birds and the farmland setting. I drove by that church twice Sunday and there was narry a bird to be seen. Which was fine because I didn't have a camera...

Thanks all of you guys for the kind words.
Izzie, y'made me smile. I've seen some of your pics.

Ken, I kept the "sky" in because there's a mountain there, 10,777ft Mt Baker. You can just see it. Since then I've acquired a grad ND filter!!! Otherwise I'd have cropped the flyers in tighter.

We had plenty of Snow Geese and Swans a couple of weeks back Dan. And that is part of Skagit....

Greg, I believe the farmers in a lot of areas will put feed out for the geese and swans. They have a predictable migration pattern that most people respect and encourage.

Never seen them Christina? and they are visitors from Canada. Glad I could help.

Anyone notice the eagles nest to the left of the church. They were hanging around.

I love #1 & 3 because it show the vast number of birds. Twice now, but not since getting my camera, I have seen this kind of site and it is awesome.

Christina, if you look up the Riefle Bird Sanctuary, it is near Ladner, the snow geese come there by the thousands in the fall.

Never seen them! However I will be looking for them. Thank you for sharing.

I still prefer #3... Something special about the lines of snow geese and the line of buildings and the church.

    Hi Rita,

Thank you for sharing. I recently returned to Canada after living abroad for a few years, and it is only then that I discovered a passion for photography so I am still becoming familiar with my own backyard. I've been meaning to visit the Riefle Bird Sanctuary so thank you so much for letting me know. One day I will visit Abbotsford, too.

And yes, I will be visiting the Riefle Bird Sanctuary this Fall. I've have yet to see such large congregations of birds, so I'm very much looking forward this.

    Thank you.

I see it now that you mentioned it. I did not when I made the comment. It really is so hidden, the question is, from a photographic point of view and not a memories or I was there point of view, does the sky and mountain contribute to the image?

I like the #1 and #2 most, I would just crop off the wing of the out-of-frame duck in the #2 (on the lower corner on left).
Are those two brown birds near the church on the left in the 3rd picture eagles? =O
