A lesson learned (for the five hundreth time)

I was planning to drive 1000 km this summer to southern Alberta to shoot some landscapes and abandoned stuff, including railway spur lines, on the prairie. Life has intervened and I cannot go. I was disappointed, especially about the railway as I wanted a shot of old rails crossing the prairie.

I drive by this four to six times a week. Literally 100 metres off my usual route. Yesterday the light came on. Amazing how when you look, you see

    How very, very true.

It's maybe the light. It's maybe your mood. But I always find it's worth going back and back again to places close to home. I invariably see images that I'd never seen before.

This was a case in point. I've photographed these trees from all angles, but it wasn't until a few weeks ago, the fog was down and I was out early, that I saw that picture. So, indeed, the pictures are there. We just have to be able to see them.

And, yes, these rails could offer up a lot of rich pickings at different times and in different seasons. Love that sky.

You're on the right track, Trevor, on so many levels!

Very nice, is the line still utilized?

I thought you might like this.

This will be easy to revisit due to the proximity to the road (really proximate, I was kneeling on the road to get this). I suspect this may be the best time of year as the dead vegetation adds to the overall feeling. But who knows what I can find in other seasons? Well worth the minor effort to try.

I dislike your use of that pun. Mainly because I am jealous and wish I had used it as my title because it encapsulates my feelings on the subject matter. And reminds me I had better try shots standing up and/or with other lenses and not just kneeling with a wide angle lens.

The line is used north of here. It is abandoned south of an old trestle about 3 km north of this location and then into Alberta. I will have to check but there is every probability there is anywhere from 30 to 60 km of old unused track between here and the next main town.

I'm sorry to hear about life intervening and squashing your vacation plans but I really like this image and the reminder that comes with it.

We all know you for your abandoned barn shots and with all that abandoned track to explore I am looking forward to seeing a whole new set of images...I think that there is a theme developing here and I like it!

Life intervening is a minor speed bump on the highway of life. I can either whine about it, make myself miserable and then have to do it or accept it, be content and do it. The latter seems the better option. When life gives you lemons, chuck them out and go get a beer. Never liked lemonade anyway.

There does seem to be a photographic bias developing. I need to find some old, abandoned, weathered birds to shoot.
