    drummer

After struggling to get decent focus in my pics and learning to take them with a lot less noise I am now trying to add motion blur when it needs to be there. On Sunday at the park there was a group from a local pipe band trying to drum up (excuse the pun) new members. This girl was concentrating so hard on her playing so I took the opportunity and pulled out the camera. My aim was to get her in focus and the drum sticks blurred. Other improvements could be made in the pic but for my goal I think I did it.

Any feedback or comments are always appreciated.

Rita...everything seems to be in good focus except the sticks themselves...oh, never mind, that's what you wanted. I'm known here to sometimes dance to a different drummer...including bad puns
    'Tis a nice shot though!

Thanks Chauncey. I am "beating" my brain to think of a "punny" response

That was a good one, Rita. I like the bokeh and the sharpness. It would have been nice if you have some more...

Thanks Isabel, I do have more but they really aren't very good. This was the best shot I got.

You achieved your aim, Rita. I like the look of concentration on the girl's face. Did you try any other compositions? Perhaps a shot of her blurred hands, or the blurred sticks hitting the drum surface?

Hi Greg, I have a few more shots that I took but this was the best. It was unfortunate that when they played here we came up for the last half of the last piece they did. We also had a 2 & 4 year old with us that were far more interested in the playground than listening to bagpipes I am at this location quit frequently so I will be keeping my eye out for them, maybe I will get lucky and they will be there again.

I had a similar problem photographing a juggler. It's all about timing the shot to get the actor in the state of rest while their objects is in motion. A few fast successive shots usually does the trick.
    Nice image.
